My Influence Map

This was so much fun to do and very helpful. One of my favourite Illustrators Matt Rhodes had posted his Influence Map using this template and I thought it was a great idea. Sort of a base of inspiration to draw from and something to remind me what I love and why I love to do what I do! You can find the template on Deviant art just search for 'Influence Map.'

Line drawing for Koschei the Deathless. The concept being as he ages his skin sags, fluids build, fats build, his body becomes this cesspool. Immortality with a soul in a bunny... ew.

Koschei skin test.

Koschie the deathless.
An immortal wicked being whose skin sags and falls as he ages. Think water balloons ready to burst. Fragile puss pockets. Oh yeah!!

Yuki-Onna 2nd Design

Took three to four hours to paint, ten percent to go. This is a more... sci-fi version of the character. Armour is just fun to paint.

Yuki-Onna 85% done

Concept art for theatre production. Almost done, there is a glitch where some layers apply white paint as an eraser. Thus why no hair highlight *grumbles*

Black Mage roughs

A selection of ideas I'm trying for the Black Mage. This is for the 8 bit character re-design for Concept Arts CHOW. I love the idea that his morals are between evil and atrociously evil.

Chow Whips for Veteran

The Veteran Chow #212

This is my entry for the Character of the Week competition for The Veteran.
I designed my guy to be brutal, inhuman and consumed by battle lust. His left arm used to belong to the demon of war, until the Veteran cut it from the demon to gain its power.

I based the design on greek armour, the colours inspired by the DA 2 trailer and the initial inspiration came while watching Solomon Kane.

Time for some FAST PAINTING!

Aladdin

My design for the traditional Aladdin. about 85 - 90% finished. Just the background and tinkering with a few elements.

Its Aladdin!
Conceptart Character Design of the week challenge is to design the original Aladdin.
The Middle Easter tale tells the story of a vagabond boy in a far off land, that far off land being China. I have reference checked this, trust Disney to gloss over this MAJOR plot point.

WIP_Beast of Revelation

Just a update of the demon sketch. Figuring out the tone and colours, getting the darkness of the armour correct. Heading in the right direction though. Despite how much of a pain this helmet has become!!!!! ^.^

The Beast Of Revelation

An Illustration for the beast of revelation, inspired by a topic off of ConceptArt.Org. Was it character of the week or creature? I got this far but didn't have the time to paint it! But now I do and it will be fun.
Scorpions were used as reference along with biblical imagery. The demon constructs him/herself from the souls of the damned. The lower body is like armour that the beast slithers into. Creepy and camp, thats me!

The Crafty Fox (Thumbnail Sketches)

What a hideous layout!
These are the thumbnail sketches for the fox spirit, the love interest for the moon spirit. He's a creature of mischief, tricks and deceit are his tools.

I tried to give him a bit of a rock star look, since the actor will be using a guitar. The client liked the far right one the most, tis why it is the biggest. He also liked the one (bottom row right) because of the hair.

I'm excited, moving onto the next generation of designs, colour illustrations!

The Moon Princess (Thumbnail Sketches)

These are some sketches of a character I'm doing for a musical production. This character is a moon spirit, royalty, her costume is based on the Heian period of Japan with influences from other eras. The idea is to make her grand, beautiful and conservative (by her peoples standards).

The top three are the designs that appealed to the client, the bottom three are my favourites.

"Demon Lord"

The mood is good, but the illustration is lacking something? Suggestions are welcome! That is true for anything I post; thoughts, comments, ideas are all appreciated.
"Deep Breath"

This was for an the exhibition Vox by Kammerklang. A really frustrating digital painting to do, but one I learned a lot from. It was inspired by a piece of music by one of the composers.

House of the Baba Yaga (completed)

Done, done and done! It's at the printers now and hopefully will be ready on time. Yays!
Almost done! So far so good, this picture has painted itself. Initially I was worried about producing a good digital painting in such good time, but for some reason this one is working. Thank you Illustration Gods!!! I will kill an Ibis in your name. And do my neighbourhood a service as well.

This is off to the printers in the morning to be printed onto canvas and framed. Then into the gallery on Monday.

Still have a mammoth checklist of things do to. Unless I can get my tunnel vision under control.

My first post, at last!

My design for the Baba Yaga hut. The Baba Yaga is a witch from Russian folklore who lives in a house balanced on chicken legs or leg.

I'm going to turn this image into a digital Illustration and submit it into an art exhibition. Short deadline (always are) work work work! paint paint paint!
